On Saturday morning at approximately 7 a.m., RCMP officers were sent to South Farmington in the Annapolis Valley following reports of gunshots. Police found a 31-year-old woman who had been injured. Her injuries were life-threatening, and she was rushed to hospital. Investigators claim the woman and the accused had a prior relationship. The suspect had already left the scene in a damaged vehicle by the time the officers arrived.
The investigation promptly became a pursuit of a suspect on the move. RCMP officers subsequently tracked down the vehicle in the Beaver Bank area, north of Halifax. Law enforcement attempted to apprehend the vehicle using a tire-deflation device, but the driver allegedly avoided the deployment and continued south toward Bedford. The vehicle ultimately veered off the roadway and came to a stop in a wooded area behind Sunnyside Mall. The suspect then allegedly fled on foot.
Due to concerns that the wanted individual might still be armed, an emergency alert was issued. Residents in the affected area were alerted to the presence of a potentially armed and hazardous suspect, and officers established a significant police presence around the search area. Emergency Response Team members were deployed to locate the individual. The man was eventually found in the woods and taken into custody.
Although an arrest was made, a key component of the investigation remained unresolved. According to police, the firearm believed to have been involved in the shooting had not been recovered. Authorities have not publicly detailed the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's injury or the reported gunfire.
The accused is charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting. Additionally, police have laid eight firearms-related charges, two traffic-related charges, a charge connected to fleeing police and three allegations of failing to comply with release orders. These charges remain unproven allegations and have not be tested in court.
